When I saw these high-tops at Nike store, I knew it was the perfect way to combine style and comfort! They are very soft and keep my feet super warm when it's freezing cold. The only drawback is that they are not waterproof at all, as I found yesterday when the streets were flooded by the storm. At less extreme situations though, I guess they'll be fine. Overall, I think for 30% off (and even at full price) it was a great buy!

Όταν αντίκρυσα αυτά τα μποτάκια στη Nike, ήξερα ότι θα ήταν o τέλειος συνδυασμός στυλ και άνεσης! Είναι πολύ μαλακά και ενυπωσιακά ζεστά για τις συνήθως παγωμένες πατούσες μου. Το μόνο αδύνατό τους σημείο είναι ότι δεν κρατάνε έξω το νερό, όπως διαπίστωσα στην χθεσινή καταιγίδα. Υποθέτω, όμως, ότι σε μια φυσιολογική βροχή θα είναι εντάξει. Γενικά, με έκπτωση 30% (αλλά και χωρίς αυτή) ήταν μια εξαιρετική αγορά!

This is what I wear to run errands in the cold days of winter. Some jeans, a comfortable sweater and a million layers underneath to keep me warm! It's steadily getting colder here, so expect some winter looks soon!

Batik Fashion Show

Batik is a traditional handcrafted textile rich in intangible cultural values, passed down for generations in Java and elsewhere since early 19th century. The techniques, symbolism and culture surrounding Batik permeates the lives of Indonesian from beginning to end: infants are carried in batik slings, brides, marriage couples and family members wear batik; all with appropriate patterns and motifs.

The word 'batik' is thought to be derived from the word 'ambatik' which translated as 'a cloth with little dots'. The suffix 'tik' means little dot, drop, point or to make dots. Batik is made by applying dots and lines of hot wax to cloth using a copper pen-like instrument or copper stamps, as a resist to hand dyeing later removed by boiling and/or scraping, repeating the process if multiple colors are desired. It is dyed by craftspeople who would fast and pray before making batik. It takes several days to make a hand stamped batik, and at least 1 month to 1 year to complete hand drawn batik.

Simply, batik is an amazing ancient method of color dyeing. Technically, batik is the process of applying dyes to porous surfaces. Historically, batik has been around for many hundreds of years. And aesthetically, batik produces some of the most beautiful art in the world.

Το Batik είναι ένα παραδοσιακό χειροποίητο ύφασμα που κουβαλά πλούσιες πολιτιστικές αξίες, που κληρονομούνται από γενιά σε γενιά τόσο στην Ιάβα όσο και σε άλλες περιοχές, ιδιαίτερα από τις του 19ου αιώνα. Οι τεχνικές, ο συμβολισμός και η κουλτούρα που το περιβάλλουν, διαπερνούν τη ζωή των Ινδονησίων από την αρχή ως το τέλος. Μωρά μεταφέρονται σε batik μάρσιπους, νύφες, ζευγάρια και οι συγγενείς τους φορούν batik, σε κατάλληλα για την κάθε περίσταση σχέδια και μοτίβα.

Η ονομασία 'batik' θεωρείται ότι προέρχεται από τη λέξη 'ambatik' που σημαίνει "ύφασμα με μικρές κουκκίδες". Η κατάληξη 'tik' σημαίνει μικρή κουκκίδα, σταγόνα, σημείο ή δημιουργία κουκίδων. Το batik δημιουργείται με την επίθεση κουκίδων και γραμμών από καυτό κερί στο ύφασμα, με τη χρήση ενός χάλκινου εργαλείου που μοιάζει με πένα ή με τη χρήση χάλκινων σφραγίδων. Ακολουθεί βαφή, αφαίρεση του κεριού με βρασμό και επανάληψη της διαδικασίας αν επιθυμούμε περισσότερα χρώματα. Η βαφή γίνεται από ειδικούς τεχνίτες, αφού προηγηθεί νηστεία και προσευχή. Χρειάζονται αρκετές μέρες για να ολοκληρωθεί ένα κομμάτι με τη χρήση σφραγίδας και τουλάχιστον ένας μήνας με ένα χρόνο για ένα κομμάτι ζωγραφισμένο στο χέρι.

Το batik είναι μια θαυμαστή αρχαία μέθοδος βαφής. Τεχνικά, είναι η διαδικασία επίθεσης βαφών σε πορώδεις επιφάνειες. Ιστορικά, το συναντάμε εκατοντάδες χρόνια. Αισθητικά, αποτελεί μία από τις ωραιότερες τέχνες στον κόσμο.

Around this time of the year I always feel full of energy. The last days are like spring and I'm in the perfect mood for the spring collections. Yesterday I went to Calzedonia where a part of the new collection is already on the shelves. Wonderful tights like delicate lace and beautiful endings on thigh-high's of retro-romantic aesthetics. Of the pretiest ones was a white tight with blue flowery designs, that reminded me of old porcelains and an off-white lacy one.

I ended up buying a delicatly weaved one in the most lovely baby pink. The photo doesn't do it complete justice but you get an idea. It was also available in black and beige. Also in dark blue with a slightly different weaving. I can't wait to see the rest of the collection!

Κάθε χρόνο τέτοια εποχή νιώθω να γεμίζω ενέργεια. Ο καιρός τις τελευταίες ημέρες θυμίζει άνοιξη και μου δημιουργεί την τέλεια διάθεση για να δω τις ανοιξιάτικες κολεξιόν που σταδιακά εμφανίζονται στα ράφια. Εχθές μπήκα στα Calzedonia που ήδη έχουν ένα μέρος της νέας συλλογής. Καλσόν σαν αραχνοΰφαντες δαντέλες και τα ωραιότερα τελειώματα στις κάλτσες, με μία ρετρό-ρομαντική αισθητική. Από τα πιο όμορφα ήταν ένα λευκό καλσόν με λεπτά μπλε λουλούδια, που θύμιζε πορσελάνες άλλης εποχής και ένα από εκρού δαντέλα.

Εγώ κατέληξα σ' ένα αραχνοΰφαντο με υπέροχο παστέλ ροζ χρώμα. Η φωτογραφία δε το δείχνει όπως είναι πραγματικά, αλλά δίνει μια ιδέα. Ήταν επίσης διαθέσιμο σε μαύρο και μπεζ, όπως και σε σκούρο μπλε με λίγο διαφορετική πλέξη. Ανυπομονώ να δω την υπόλοιπη συλλογή!

ΥΓ. Πρέπει να παρακολουθήσετε αυτά τα βίντεο του Michael Bastian για τα GANT. Είναι τέλεια!

Να το πω στα ελληνικά...

...ή σχεδόν; Αν το καλοσκεφτείς οι μισές λέξεις που χρησιμοποιούμε "ηλεκτρονικά" είναι αγγλικές. Αν κάποιος λοιπόν αποφασίσει να γράφει στα ελληνικά, θα πρέπει να μεταφράζει τα πάντα ή να χρησιμοποιεί τους όρους όπως είναι; Δηλαδή αυτό είναι το blog μου ή το ιστολόγιό μου, που τιτλοφορείται "A style theory" κι έχει θέμα τη μόδα ή μήπως έπρεπε να πω "Μία θεωρία ενδυματολογικού ύφους" σχετικά με τους νεωτερισμούς στο ντύσιμο. Εντάξει, θα μου πείτε ότι τώρα γίνομαι υπερβολική, αλλά καταλάβατε το νόημα. Ο προβληματισμός αυτός προέκυψε όταν αποφάσισα να γράφω και στα ελληνικά, οπότε παρατήρησα ότι στο κείμενό μου κατέληγαν διάσπαρτες αγγλικές λέξεις. Και αναρωτήθηκα, αξίζει να γράφεις μ' ένα κοκτέιλ (να το πάλι) γλωσσών ή να τα λέμε μια και καλή. Όμως μιας και οι μισές επισκέψεις σ' αυτό το χώρο (αποφεύγω να τον ονομάσω μέχρι ν' αποφασίσω αν είναι blog ή ιστολόγιο) είναι απ' την Ελλάδα, θα κάνω την προσπάθεια.

Sunday morning we were driving along the coast. This is something we do every weekend for years now, so the things around us looked familiar. But since you are always heading somewhere, although you enjoy the trip, you never stop half way. This time we stopped and it was totally worth it.

I always loved the various aspects of a suit. So simple, yet so elegant! A suit transforms a woman and has endless possibilities. It s the easiest outfit one can choose to wear, since all its pieces match together. But not quite. Easy as it may seems, it’s all about the details.

First of all the fabric. It can be made of mat or shiny fabrics, everyday or luxurious, combination of different textures and colors.

Design. Long or short jacket, with shoulder pads or not, single or double series of buttons, even one button or no buttons at all, any number of pockets, opening at the back, wide or narrow lapels, and so on. Pants is a whole other story, wide leg, cigarette, high waist… And don’t get me started about the shirt, if you don’t decide to go without one, because that would also work. Of course if that is not enough, you can always choose a three piece, adding a vest to the equation.

Accessories. A handkerchief, a flower, a papillion, a tie, a pin on one of the lapels, a pin on the tie, a tie clip, suspenders.

Do I need to repeat that there are endless possibilities?

But the beauty of a suit is not only the numerous combinations. It’s also the variety of styles it provides to a woman. A woman in a suit can feel, and so be, powerful, feminine and sexy, glamorous, interesting, beautiful.

Long Summer

Although we still haven't packed our summer clothes away it seems like we are slowly heading towards winter. So I am thinking of summer and what happened the last months.

During June I was extemelly busy with my paper in order to graduate. Finally in July, after 5 years of hard work, I was awarded with the diploma of Civil Engineering.

After that I was free and ready for my vacations, beggining with a three-day sailing cruise.

The boat was woderful and the trip overwhelming. In fact I was so excited that I took sailing lessons and became a skipper!

During the rest of summer I enjoyed the great beaches around Greece!

Although I'm really happy I'm not a student any longer I feel sad I had to leave my pretty house in Patras, where I was studying, and move back in Athens.

Anyway, I'm glad I finally settled down and managed to get back to blogging!

Yesterday my father brought this Alfa Romeo 159 TBi from work to drive it during the weekend. It certainly is the kind of car that a girl can use as an accessory since it's really beautiful. So today I put on my gloves and took it for a ride, taking some pictures by the way.

This weekend finally was cool enough (when the sun set) to bring out my boots. I bought these boots last February at sales and since the weather warmed up pretty fast the following months I managed to wear them less than 5 times. I was so happy I could wear them again, that I organised a little photoshoot to show them to you.

Here with vinyl leggings and a casual knit.

They are Joop! and they have midnight-blue colorblocks near the ankle and at the top, but unfortunatelythese are not quite visible here.

I borrowed a vintage shirt from my mother in order to make the look more sophisticated. I really love the result.

Tired from the black n' white I decided to put on some colour, so that's when my cowboy boots and suede jacket kicked in.

After our walk we stopped at Zonar's Le Cafe d' Athens to have something sweet.

It is beautifully decorated and has grid like vitros on the ceiling that remind me of Piet Mondrian's paintings.

At Zonar's they also served some wonderful salads that inspired me to create one of my own the following day at home using seasonal vegetables: pomegranate, lettuce and Roman rocket.

I spent this weekend at my home in Athens. It was a really cold weekend and I had to pull out of the closet warm and cozy clothes. Saturday morning I decided to go to the forest with my father in order to take pictures and I had some shots of myself taken too.

Today, my father and I decided to visit the new archeological museum of Patras. The building is very impessive so we took the opportunity to take some pictures around it.

The museum displays more than two thousand exhibits from Mycenaean to the late Roman period. I wish I could show you some of them but unfortunatelly no photos are allowed. It was very interesting and I'm sure I'll go back soon.
